The provisions for the sectoral measures in the field of fruit and vegetables can be found in the so-called CAP Strategic Plan Application Ordinance (“GAP-Strategieplan-Anwendungsverordnung”) of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management (BML) from 2023.

The production of fruit and vegetables is a cornerstone of the supply security of the domestic population with high-quality food. The sectoral programme of the new CAP supports recognised producer organisations in the fruit and vegetable sector. This is to promote the pooling of supply, strengthen the position of producers and thus ensure market- and consumer-oriented as well as sustainable fruit and vegetable production.

The support of the fruit and vegetable sector is handled by Agrarmarkt Austria (AMA).

The Austrian sectoral programme for fruit and vegetables under the new CAP includes tailor-made measures in the form of 26 interventions. Essentially, these support measures can be grouped as follows:

  • Support measures of relevance to supply, sales and quality
  • Support measures of relevance to climate and the environment
  • Advisory services
  • Measures of crisis prevention and crisis management
  • Measures in the field of research and development
  • Measures to improve the conditions of employment

For the new CAP period, around 36.5 million euros of EU funding has been earmarked for domestic producer organisations in the fruit and vegetable sector.

Further details can be found on the information page of the BML National Strategic Plan 2023-2027 and in the information leaflets of the AMA producer organisations and industry associations.
