Cross-compliance means the requirement to adhere to the statutory standards concerning the environment, food safety and animal welfare.

Eligibility conditions for the grant of payments

Persons receiving direct payments under the common agricultural market regulations, specific payments relating to rural development and farms, which – in the course of the wine sector regulations – are taking part in the grubbing-up scheme or in restructuring or conversion measures, are required to satisfy certain basic farm management requirements and maintain their land in good agricultural and ecological condition. The requirement to meet these cross-compliance obligations is called cross-compliance.

The cross-compliance rules cover the basic farm management requirements and the good agricultural and ecological conditions (including the maintenance of permanent grassland).

The legal basis of cross-compliance is provided by Council Regulation 73/2009 and Commission Regulation 1122/2009.
