Gender Mainstreaming Working Group at the Federal Ministry

Logo with the symbols for female and male and the text: Gender Mainstreaming

The Working Group Gender Mainstreaming was established based on the decision of the Council of Ministers of 3 April 2002. It reports directly to the Federal Minister and supports the Ministry with the implementation of the gender mainstreaming strategy.

The chairwoman of the Gender Mainstreaming Working Group is Katja Link. All in all the Gender Mainstreaming Working Group comprises presently 9 woman and 4 men from all departments of the central unit and some agencies as well as from  different hierarchical  levels. The names of all members are published for colleagues of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management on the intranet.

The members of the Working Group meet four times per year to exchange views, to fix future measures jointly, and to evaluate previous activities. If required, an additional exchange takes place in small groups.

All members are, within their spheres of competence, first contact persons for questions related to gender mainstreaming. They are supported by staff members of the Central Contact Point for Gender Mainstreaming, Equal Treatment, Human Rights and Integration - briefly referred to as GGMI.

Pro-actively the members of the Working Group establish networks at the Ministry to promote the implementation of gender mainstreaming. In close cooperation with the GGMI internal events of the Ministry are organised on the occasion of the International Women’s Day as well as on the occasion of the International Men’s Day in order to seize the opportunity to cast a light on selective topics from the gender perspective. Guidelines are developed, gender courses are held within the framework of the basic education of federal employees, and internal and external requests on the gender issue are answered. Moreover, articles on current topics from the gender perspective are regularly published on the intranet and in the online magazine for staff members, “Focus online”.

The exchange of views between the chairpersons of the gender groups of all Ministries takes place regularly at meetings of the Inter-ministerial Working Group Gender Mainstreaming Budgeting, which is currently chaired by Federal Minister Susanne Raab.

Katja Link and, as her deputy, Mr. Christian Kasper, were nominated as members of the Inter-ministerial Working Group Gender Mainstreaming/ Budgeting.

The activities of the Gender Mainstreaming Working Group at the Ministry are published in an activity report on a regular basis.
